The Ashram Committee at Kriya Vendanta Gurukulam (KVG) would like to let everyone know that the Ashram will be closed until further notice. Please meditate at home. We apologize for the inconvenience but we do not want our two returning resident monks to get sick if it can possibly be avoided. We also feel that allowing KVG to remain open, even for something as enriching as meditation and spiritual fellowship, is counter-productive to the collective effort of reducing the speed of infection throughout the country and around the world.
During the time the Ashram is closed, we will be assessing the next steps and communicating with further emails. Currently, the best information we have about the virus is that it can be contagious days before those that have it start displaying any symptoms. In fact, some in the population have it and never display any symptoms. This is why the number of confirmed cases in this country and the rest of the world, is likely underrepresented by a very large margin. We owe it to the more vulnerable in our population and to the health care workers, who are already struggling under the load, to do our part and stay home so as to help stop the spread.
By taking this necessary precaution we hope to support the global effort and also protect our resident monks to the degree that we can. Hopefully, testing will become available in the next few weeks and we will be able to explore less stringent solutions. However, in the meantime please meditate at home and thank you for your understanding. Also note that whatever kriya program is conducted online like the Book Club discussions etc, will still continue during this period.
Please intensify your meditation and prayer for the welfare of the entire world during this critical time.
